Artistic and Cultural Mediation (MAC) as an area of research has emerged in Portugal very recently and therefore it seems relevant to offer a moment of sharing thoughts, between professionals interested in practices and conceptions about culture and art, about the place and role of the action of Artistic Mediation and Cultural as an exercise in social transformation and development. Based on reflections anchored in the production of scientific knowledge, we wish to confront perspectives and consolidate this praxis aimed at building a more democratic, inclusive and sustainable society. The urgency of this exercise was born with the changes in the role and place of artists and the arts in today's societies, as well as the relationships between populations or audiences and the various artistic manifestations that opened up the professional and territorial space that welcomes this new function. Artistic and cultural mediation is thus assumed because of the crossing of scientific and artistic domains, and it is these characteristics that it is important to develop in a systematic way.
